Dorothy Leigh grew up in a musical family, which included her older sister who sang with Dionne Warwick and other artists. “I grew up in a large family. We used to sing duets and background behind each other. I loved Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick and Barbra Streisand. My dream was to be an accomplished singer.”

Dorothy Leigh beginnings

As a child, Dorothy Leigh sang, and took piano and violin lessons; however, her life went in a different direction. After attending Long Island University and Adelphi University, she found herself working in the corporate world, which did not allow much time to sing, but she did perform every chance she got.

Her opportunity to pursue her dream came two years ago, when she was laid off from her job of more than ten years. A pharmaceutical error led to severe medical complications, which found her in the Intensive Care Unit, fighting for her life. At a cross roads in her life, Dorothy Leigh returned to her first love, singing.
