Washington DC German Band style

Their music ranges from the traditional Biergarten drinking music to up-to-date popular ballads, swing tunes, and Latin music. Their vocal arrangements are sung in German and English, and even include yodeling. They also showcase an "Alphorn" performer. Because of their large repertoire, they can honor many requests and provide a varied program.

Washington DC German Band leader

The founder and previous leader of this Washington DC German Band began playing Bavarian and Austrian polkas, waltzes, and bier drinking music on his accordion in the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Wheaton, MD in 1969. He is, originally from Cologne on Rhine, Germany, and he was joined by a friend and neighbor from Switzerland on tenor saxophone and by another friend originally from Stuttgart, Germany, on guitar. All three sang native German and the house rocked!

The band has since expanded, playing the German and French Embassies, and Freedom Plaza, both in Washington, D.C., for Maryland’s Governor and countless public events. This Washington DC German Band has also played for numerous restaurants like the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, WV continually beginning in 1969, Blob’s Park in Jessup, MD, countless parties, anniversaries and public and private functions. Over the next decade or so the band grew to 6 and then 7 pieces.

In 2011, this Washington DC German Band welcomed a new leader. They began focusing on authentic Bavarian and Austrian music and also on advertising, booking and staffing. The band has currently six members.
