This Seattle Funk Band comes from the Northwest United States, a region long known for producing energetic and fresh musical talent, blazes the Emerald City's latest sensation.

Seattle Funk Band tradition

This Seattle Funk Band was established in 1995 and has set the standard for new soul music in the Pacific Northwest. Echoing the legendary passion of famed horn band Tower of Power and that "Bay Area Sound," this 10-piece ensemble is an R&B/Funk/Soul band with strong vocals and a five-piece horn section that has maintained the tradition and more.

They play regularly in the Seattle/Tacoma area at local clubs and private events. This Seattle Funk Band is looking to expand their scope into regional, national and international touring in quality music clubs, casinos and corporate/private events.

Steve, Vocals

Steve is a lifelong student of music. He started his career playing the drums, congas, guitar, and harmonica, but decided in his early teens to pursue his love of singing.

He developed his raw power and strong stage presence performing with such bands as Steamhead, Makin' Mamma Shake, and Blue Voodoo, but became tired of the rock scene and began singing jazz standards for local parties and events. That changed in early 1998 when he heard the big sound of this Seattle Funk Band, and hasn't looked back since.

Leonard, Guitar and Vocals

A graduate of Franklin High School in Seattle, Leonard played an active role in concert and stage bands earning him a full college scholarship.

Leonard's arranging style has been a key element in the success of the bands in which he has been a part, including Nine Lives, Onyx, Tamaraw, Bottom Line, American Blues Band, Full Circle and this Seattle Funk Band.

Jim, Bass and Vocals

A native of Spokane Washington, Jim has been on the Seattle Music scene for over twenty years. A veteran with national touring experience, Jim recorded with Richard Marx on several albums and performed with him on three world tours, spanning six years.

Dave, Drums

For almost twenty years, Dave has been performing and recording in the Seattle music scene. He spent his time at Edmonds Community College playing Jazz while studying with Garey Williams, and the great Jeff Hamilton. After that it was on to various pop, funk, rock, jazz, and top 40 bands.

He spent a year enjoying moderate success touring the US with the Renegade Saints. Dave has shared the stage with Don Gilmore, Jefferson Airplane, Lee Oscar (War), Patches Stewart (Al Jarreau), Greg Adams (Tower), and Darren Motamedy. Besides this Seattle Funk Band, since 2001, he has also been a member of the Michael Powers Group.

Ken, Sound and Production

With thirty years or touring experience, Ken is a true professional. Attention to detail and a smooth mix are the hallmarks of his work. Ken has toured with and produced Ray Charles, Lou Rawls and the Neville Brothers.

Jack, Musical Director, Lead Trumpet & Horn Arranger

With a BA and BM in Trumpet Performance from the University of Washington, Jack has performed with many local and national groups and artists. He has also performed on numerous recording projects, including three albums with the critically acclaimed Jim Knapp Orchestra.

Jack’s signature writing style has put him in demand as a horn arranger for a wide variety of funk, rock, pop and jazz music projects, including this Seattle Funk Band.

Alexey, Tenor Sax - Soloist

A native of Moscow, Russia, Alexey began to play saxophone at age 15. He graduated from Russia's highest Academy of Music in Moscow - Gnesin's , and studied with celebrated saxophonist Dave Liebman in Ireland.

Alexey has performed at the jazz festivals in Montreux, Switzerland and Pori, Finland. He has played with Dave Liebman, Benny Golson, Wynton Marsalis, Randy Brecker, Ray Brown, Curtis Fuller, and many others. At this time Alexey is a permanent resident of Seattle, WA and performs with this Seattle Funk Band.

Bob, Alto and Tenor Sax

Bob earned his BA in Music from Central Washington University. While teaching and playing professionally, his experience includes stints at Disneyland, Carnival Cruise Lines and appearances at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals.

Besides this Seattle Funk Band, Bob has also performed with the likes of Pete Christleib, Bobby Shew, Peter Erskine, Matt Catingub, Frankie Avalon & Annete Funicello to name a few.

Scott, Baritone Sax

Born and raised in the Chicago area, Scott was originally a student of jazz saxophone, winning awards for both performing and writing. Scott has served as a clinician and instructor for young jazz musicians at music camps and festivals, which has given him the opportunity to share the stage with such national artists as Thelonious Monk Jr., Don Sickler, George Howard, and Brenda Russell to name a few.

Scott earned a BA in Jazz Studies from the University of Iowa, and has been playing in local jazz and funk bands, including this Seattle Funk Band, since he relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 1997.
